Darren Lynn Bousman directed and wrote Spiral, a 2021 horror film. Nineth Saw film. In the meantime, a homicide detective by the name of Fitch is kidnapped and put in a trap where he must rip his fingers off to avoid electrocution in a filling water basin; he also fails to escape and dies. Several years earlier, Fitch had ignored a backup call from Banks, which resulted in him nearly getting killed, and Banks had been responsible for this. Because of his past with Fitch, some of the police start to get the impression that Banks could be the one responsible for this. After after, a package is sent to the station, and inside of it is a pig puppet as well as a portion of Schenk's tattooed skin. A little vial located within the box provides the authorities with directions to a butcher shop, which was once a hobby store and was a frequent hangout for Banks and his father, retired chief Marcus Banks. The group finds a recording recorder and a skinned body that they later determine to be Schenk when they arrive. Marcus, who has made up his mind to find the murderer on his own, goes to a warehouse, where he is promptly kidnapped. Shortly after that, Garza is abducted and held in a trap in the cold storage area of the precinct. There, she is required to cut her spinal chord with a blade in order to stop hot wax from running from a pipe over her face. She is unable to do so, and she succumbs to her injuries caused by the wax that is scorching hot just as Banks finds her corpse.
This is the only Saw film in which the character of John Kramer / Jigsaw isn't seen onscreen in any way other than through images, since Tobin Bell, who portrayed the role in the previous films, did not return. As Bousman noted, the film's murderer is a Jigsaw copycat, not the real Jigsaw, he stated his decision to not replace Bell in the famous role. When Billy the Puppet's origins were discussed, Bell indicated an interest in returning as Jigsaw.
Spiral was born out of a fortuitous encounter with Michael Burns, the vice chairman of Lionsgate, at a friend's wedding in Brazil, when he was inspired to try his hand at a horror picture, but he hoped to include some humor. His plans for expanding the series were met with enthusiastic response from Lionsgate. It was Joe Drake, CEO of Lionsgate, who noted that Rock's approach was respectful to the tradition of the material, while also reinvigorating the brand with his witty, creative vision, and enthusiasm for this great horror series. Rumors circulated in January 2018 that Lionsgate was in the early stages of planning a ninth Saw film, but the Spierig Brothers would not be involved. There will be sequels, the filmmakers stated in an interview with Screen Rant. With Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, the authors of Jigsaw, Twisted Pictures was already working on a sequel by April of last year.
Rock's role was formerly linked to Danny Glover's David Tapp from the original film. Stolberg and Goldfinger decided against it since it didn't pass the smell test. In May 2021, Bousman said that talks are underway to bring Costas Mandylor back as Mark Hoffman in a future film. Bousman and the crew debated whether or not Tobin Bell should reprise his role as Jigsaw until the last day of production, but they decided that having Bell back would make the film seem like the ninth part of the Saw series rather than a standalone picture as it was intended. Because the Jigsaw character was killed off in the third picture, Bousman believed that previous films had done the Jigsaw character a disservice by utilizing flashbacks to bring him into the tale, and he didn't want to make the same error in Spiral (2021) or disrespect Bell's legendary portrayal. Bousman contemplated including Bell in Spiral: From the Book of Saw by having him perform a Johnny Cash song during the closing scene, but decided against it because it was too gimmicky.
Stolberg told Bloody Disgusting that Jigsaw was never in any draft of the screenplay for Spiral: From the Book of Saw, even though they talked about it after the first test screening and all the way through post-production. They thought that including Jigsaw would change the core of the story they were trying to tell, not because they didn't like the character but because they wanted to move the franchise in a new direction. Stolberg also thought that because of the franchise's timeline, any possible connection between John Kramer and William Schenk/The Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) Killer should have happened when the latter was still a child. Stolberg and Goldfinger once proposed an after-credits scene in which Kramer met a young Schenk after the murder of the latter's father and became friends with him, maybe giving him the puppet he later uses as the Spiral (2021) Killer.
Because the killer in the film is a Jigsaw copycat who differs from the original, it was decided to replace Billy the Puppet with a new puppet in the form of Mr. Snuggles, as Bousman believed that if the original Jigsaw was replaced, the original puppet should be replaced as well, so the new killer could not be compared. The production feared that using Bell's voice for Mr. Snuggles would raise questions about the relationship between the two killers; an early draft actually featured Jigsaw's voice only to be revealed as a digitally altered version of his voice, and the story originally had all the speeches as past recordings of Jigsaw's voice using words in a different order to show that the Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) Killer had digitally rearranged the words to show that the Spiral (2021) Killer had digitally rearranged the The filmmakers had a difficult time replacing Bell's voice as the murderer. Bousman auditioned a variety of women, children, and men's voices before deciding on the computer produced voice. Only two days before the sound mix was finished, the final voice for the movie was chosen.
Rock was adamant that Bousman take up the director's chair for the project, despite the fact that Bousman had already said that he would not helm another installment of the Saw franchise after Saw IV.
According to Burg and Koules, Rock's handling of Saw was analogous to what Eddie Murphy did for buddy cop flicks in 48 Hrs., giving the Saw series a whole new viewpoint. Similarly, Bousman stated that compared to previous installments, Spiral contained less violence and gore, expressing the belief that gore and violence were a gimmick for him when he first began working on the Saw films, but that both elements now serve the story, which focuses on character, tension, and fear.
Detective Zeke Banks is played by Rock. The character was conceived by Rock, Stolberg, and Goldfinger during discussions prior to writing the screenplay, with Rock pondering what he would do if he were the original Saw protagonist Dr. Lawrence Gordon and had to cut off his own foot, until they decided that it would be interesting if Rock played a cop who was shunned by his peers.
Principal filming for The Organ Donor started on July 8, 2019, in Toronto, Ontario, with Jordan Oram acting as cinematographer. The film will feature Rock, Jackson, Minghella, and Nichols. According to Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock, as well as Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols, will make this picture wholly unique in the Saw canon, and they can't wait to unleash this surprising and scary new narrative on fans of the series. He claims that just because they created Spiral: From the Book of Saw doesn't imply the Saw franchise is dead. Spiral (2021)'s arrival does not rule out the possibility of Saw IX. This is not the ninth installment in the Saw series. Jigsaw might very well be followed by Saw IX.
